Common questions
Where do the vintage ratings come from?
We collect independent published vintage charts, put their different scales onto one 100-point index and combine them into one rating for each region, wine style and year. A year is shown only when at least two charts rate it, and the confidence note tells you how closely they agree. The original chart scores are not shown.
Is the rating on a wine's page a score for that wine?
No. It is the rating of that year for the wine's region and style. Individual wines can do better or worse than their year: good producers make good wine in difficult years.
What are season conditions?
A rating from 1 to 5 of how favourable the weather was for the vines, based on daily weather since 1991 compared with the region's own history. It looks at warmth, spring frost, flowering, rain and disease pressure, dry weather before harvest, cool nights and water stress. It describes the weather, not the quality of the wine.
Why does a region show only season conditions, or no rating for a year?
For some regions there are no published vintage charts yet, so the app shows the weather only. A year also stays empty when fewer than two charts rate it.
Where do wine names and classifications come from?
Wine names come from the LWIN database by Liv-ex, published under CC BY 4.0. Ranks follow the official classifications, such as Bordeaux 1855, Saint-Émilion and Burgundy's Grand and Premier Crus. Saint-Émilion is revised about every ten years, so a rank may come from an earlier edition.
Who writes the vintage descriptions and drinking windows?
They are written with the help of an AI model, using only the combined ratings and the season's weather.
Does the app need an internet connection?
No. Everything works offline. You only need a connection to open the source links on the About screen.
How do I remove my data?
All data stays on your device. Remove favorites by tapping the heart again, or delete the app to remove everything.
