Steamboat

Steamboat Resort sits on Mount Werner above the town of Steamboat Springs in north-western Colorado. It opened on 12 January 1963 as Storm Mountain and was renamed in 1965 for Buddy Werner, the local Olympian; since 2017 it has belonged to Alterra Mountain Company. Steamboat is where the term Champagne Powder was coined and trademarked, and its aspen and spruce glades are among the most famous tree skiing in North America.

Whether you are chasing fresh lines through the glades that gave Champagne Powder its name, riding the Wild Blue Gondola from the village all the way to Sunshine Peak, cruising Why Not for about 3 mi (4.8 km) back to the base, or skiing under the lights above the village, Steamboat rewards knowing where you are. The town below has sent more athletes to the Winter Olympics than anywhere else in the United States. The Steamboat Gondola and the Wild Blue Gondola both leave from the base village at Gondola Square.
